The Sign that I Should Get A New Sofa

Oct. 20, 2021

If you look at the number of sofas in good condition in consignment shops, second-hand shops and thrift shops, you will see that many people decide to replace their sofa simply because they want to redecorate. If you look at the number of sofas on the roadside on rubbish day, there are many people who will decide to replace a sofa when the armrests come off.

The average lifespan of a sofa purchased today is between 7 and 15 years, but with six warning signs before the armrests fall off, it may just be time to start looking for a replacement. COUTUREJARDIN shares with you the symbols about when to change a new sofa.

Squeaking noises

If you hear creaks, pops or squeaks every time someone sits down, these are warning signs of structural damage to the sofa. The noise could be a problem with a joint in the wooden or metal frame or a weakened metal spring. Older furniture is usually constructed of hardwood and screws. Unless the sofa is old or a valuable heirloom, repairing structural damage and replacing the upholstery can cost almost as much as a new sofa.

Sofas do not fit into room space

People living in a mobile society often buy their first sofa for a rented flat after university and now it looks lost in a large family room in their new home.

You can move a smaller sofa to a bedroom or study. But for smaller rooms, the sofa should not get stuck between other furniture, which will cause excessive wear and tear on the upholstery and could damage the frame. Then it's time to replace the sofa.

Too much odour

If you have pets, children in nappies in your home, odours can build up in your upholstery and the padding underneath. Regular vacuuming and steam cleaning will help, but eventually, the smell may win out. If the room doesn't smell fresh, even after cleaning, it may be time for a new sofa.

The cushion is flat

If the carpet feels like it offers more padding and support than a sagging sofa cushion, then it's time to make a change. If the upholstery on the rest of the sofa is still in good condition and can be easily removed from the seat cushions, then simply by adding new padding you can make the sofa a little more durable.

The seat cushions can be filled with pillow padding, solid foam cut to the correct size or loosely crushed foam. Or come to KUSHE and buy a new sofa.

Poor upholstery

There is a difference between variations in decorative colours and tastes and worn, faded or badly stained upholstery. Daily use, jumping children and pets will eventually wear away most of the fabric. Some worn areas can be repaired, even on leather; but eventually, the fabric will expose the padding underneath.

If someone uses the sofa, stains are inevitable. A thorough upholstery cleaning will brighten the appearance of the fabric and help to remove some odours. You can buy cleaning products and hire or purchase a steamer or hire a professional cleaner.
